North Korea advocates increased poultry production

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made a visit to a recently constructed chicken farm, emphasising the necessity of ramping up poultry production to bring about a substantial change in the living standards of the people, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Accompanied by his daughter, known as Ju-ae, Kim toured the Kwangchon Chicken Farm located in Hwangju County of North Hwanghae Province on Sunday, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
During the visit, Kim stressed the importance of continually increasing production capacity to ensure an ample supply of meat and eggs for the people. The report from KCNA also mentioned plans to establish another chicken farm in Pyongyang later this year.
North Korea has been directing efforts towards enhancing grain production as the nation grapples with chronic food shortages, leading to reported instances of starvation in certain regions.
Kim Jong-un expressed his desire to take the Kwangchon Chicken Farm as a model for modernising poultry facilities nationwide, aiming to bring about a substantial change in the people's living, as outlined in the report.
This visit follows Kim's inspection of the Kwangchon chicken factory construction site in July 2020. State media at that time claimed that the factory had the capacity to produce thousands of tonnes of meat and tens of millions of eggs annually.
