Turkish crop production up 4.2% in 2017
Production of cereals and other crops in Turkey increased 4.2% to 68,061,000 tonnes in 2017 compared with the previous year, when it produced 65.3 million tonnes, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute.
Cereals production alone increased 2.4% to 36,133,000 tonnes in 2017 compared with the previous year.
Wheat, barley, rye and oat production respectively increased 4.4% to 21.5 million tonnes, 6% to 7.1 million tonnes, 6.7% to 320,000 tonnes and 11.1% to 250,000 tonnes from 2016.
In the pulses group, broad beans production increased 9% to 6,847 tonnes, chick pea production increased 3.3% to 470,000 tonnes and potatoes increased 1.1% to 4.8 million tonnes.
In the group of oil seeds, soybean production decreased 15.2% to 140,000 tonnes from last year.
Israel is one of the world's major cereal producers, ranking 18th as of 2014, according to The Economist. It is also listed by trendingtopmost.com as the 10th-largest producer of wheat in the world as of 2017. --Rick Alberto
