India's New Delhi launches first chicken processing plant
The Delhi Agri Marketing Board (DAMB) will open the first chicken processing unit, which aims to supply quality meat not only to Delhi consumers but to neighboring cities.
DAMB will make use of seven acres of the 15-acre plot where the current chicken market is functioning at Gazipur on the Delhi-UP border (NH-24).
The facility has a capacity to process 5,000 birds per hour in a single shift of eight hours, which will produce a total of 40,000 birds per day.
New Delhi consumes around 240,000 birds daily, and close to 50,000 of which are supplied by the existing poultry market in Gazipur.
The broiler consumption in Delhi is rising ate 15-20 percent. The current requirements of the area are met by suppliers from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal in India.
Currently, the existing market at Gazipur has two sheds which are temporary and have nearly 90 shops. The new chicken facility will have 120 shops.
