Poultry farmers in Latvia called to take biosafety measures after Poland bird flu outbreak

While no poultry from Poland have been exported to Latvia, the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service has urged farmers to report any suspicious signs of bird flu infection, reported Xinhua News.

To prevent a bird flu outbreak, the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service has called on poultry farmers to take biosafety measures and report any bird flu symptoms, which include low food and water consumption, difficulty in breathing or large flock deaths.

Poultry farmers have also been advised to prevent unauthorised access into their farms and for their birds to avoid any contact with wild birds.

The country's veterinary authority said no domestic or decorative birds have been exported from Poland to Latvia last month. In addition, no bird flu infected turkeys from Poland have entered the food chain.

Latvia is free from bird flu.
