Impossible Foods launches plant-based pork and sausage at CES 2020
Similar to the Impossible Burger, the company's new pork and sausage variants are gluten-free, contain no animal hormones and antibiotics, and is created for halal or kosher certification, reported The Verge.
Impossible uses soy as the main ingredient for their meat substitute products, as well as heme from a genetically-engineered yeast. It's heme that makes Impossible products look and taste like meat.
The new Impossible Pork is set to be a key product for the company's international expansion, especially as United Nations data has shown that pork makes up 36% of global meat consumption. In comparison, cattle and buffalo accounts for 22.2% of the world's meat consumption.
The Impossible Sausage will be available at restaurants in the United States, such as Little Caesars and Burger King. No release date has been announced for the Impossible Pork.
Competitor Beyond Meat has already offered a sausage product in 2018, which is already available for retail sale.
