Malaysian Company Will Import 11,000 Goats From Indonesia

A Malaysian company, Livestock and Food Sdn Bhd, will import 11,000 goats from Indonesia to meet supply shortage in the country, a government official said.

Shipment will be made up of 1,000 goats each month starting January 2003, Sofjan Sudradjat, animal husbandry director general, said on Monday.

Demand for Indonesian livestock has increased followed reports of animal diseases in other countries. Indonesia has been declared free from mouth and hoof disease and mad cow disease.

Sofjan said orders have also been received from other countries including Egypt, with which a memorandum of understanding will be signed shortly on the supply of 50,000 sheep.
