Brazil Chicken Exports Forecast To Rise 10% In 2004
Brazilian chicken exports are forecasted to rise 10% to 2.2 million metric tons in 2004, up from 1.96 million tons in 2003, according to the Brazilian Chicken Exporters Association, or ABEF.
Revenue from chicken exports is seen rising 15% in 2004 to $2.1 billion, up from $1.8 billion last year.
The sector already showed strong growth last year of 20% for chicken export volume and 28% in revenue terms.
According to ABEF, the recent occurrence of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad-cow disease, in the U.S. could help Brazilian chicken exports in the short term, especially to destinations such as Asia.
Brazil currently exports chicken to 120 destinations, including Uzbekistan, the Ukraine and Venezuela, according to ABEF.
