24,000 swine to be culled in Bulgaria because of African swine fever

Veterinary authorities in the country set to cull 24,000 swine from a farm in the Shumen region, northeast of Bulgaria after it was found to be affected by African swine fever (ASF), reported Reuters.

Bulgaria's food safety agency said the latest ASF outbreak was found at a farm in Nikola Kozlevo village, located in the Shumen region.

The new outbreak comes several months after the last ASF case in August 2019, where six swine breeding farms reported a positive ASF case.

130,000 swine in total were culled by veterinarian authorities in the last ASF case to curb the spread of the disease.
