Brazil meat exports fall in December
Brazil's meat exports fell considerably in December, continuing the downward trend since November, when the global financial crisis worsened, according to financial daily Gazeta Mercantil on Monday (Jan 5).
Chicken exports fell 21.9 percent on-year in December 2008 to US$358.7 million, and down 9.1 percent from November.
Beef exports declined 21.8 percent on-year to US$214 million, and dropped 13.9 percent from November.
The decrease was mainly caused by the global economic slowdown, which lowered meat demand and pressurised farm commodity prices.
