68,000 chickens to be culled in poultry farm at Gifu prefecture, Japan due to bird flu
The Gifu prefectural government in central Japan said they have confirmed a bird flu outbreak at a poultry farm in Minokamo city, with 68,000 chicken at the farm to be culled, Jiji Press reported.
This is the first bird flu outbreak to be reported in Gifu prefecture, making it the 14th prefecture in Japan to confirm bird flu.
All 68,000 chicken at the farm will be culled, with farms in a 3 km radius prohibited from moving chickens or eggs.
The Gifu prefectural government confirmed a H5 subtype virus from samples collected from the chickens raised at Minokami farm.
