Vietnam to provide support, compensation to pig farmers impacted by ASF
Vietnam has recently issued a decision to support local pig farmers in regions affected by African swine fever (ASF) and provide financial aid for disease prevention.
Support will be extended to individual pig farmers, farm owners, cooperatives and small and medium enterprises that suffered losses due to ASF.
The government will provide compensation to farmers who have to cull their pigs. They will receive ₫10,000– 30,000 (US$0.43-1.29) per kilogramme for piglets and pigs breed for meat production while their peers will receive ₫12,000–35,000 (US$0.52-1.51) per kilogramme for sows and boars.
Small and medium enterprises and female farmers will be given ₫500,000 (US$21.50) per hog to improve biological solutions for the protection of hogs produced for repopulation.
The People's Committee in Ca Mau Province has also directed agencies to keep ASF under control in Le Van Nam's farm in Khanh Lam Commune, U Minh District.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Province was instructed to increase preventative measures to curb the spread of ASF in hogs.
