China to release additional meat from state reserves for upcoming Lunar New Year


 

Gao Feng, a spokesman from China's Ministry of Commerce, said China will release more meat from state reserves to increase domestic meat supply in preparation for the the upcoming rise in meat consumption during the Lunar New Year holidays, Reuters reported.

 

China, the biggest pork consumer in the world, has been selling tens of thousands of tonnes of frozen meat from its state reserves since the start of 2021 to keep meat prices manageable with the upcoming Lunar New Year holidays approaching in mid-February.
