Ukraine to bolster cattle numbers, reduce foreign beef supplies
Ukrainian government support programmes appear to be bringing results as the country looks to reverse a prolonged decline in cattle numbers and reduce dependence on overseas beef suppliers.
Cattle numbers in the country rose to five million in 2012, an increase of 60,000 head or 1.3% when compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
