Philippine feed wheat imports up by 11.29%

In 2011, 1.07 million tonnes of feed wheat was imported by Philippine feed millers, an 11.29% increase from 962,446 tonnes imported in 2010.

Industry data showed that Australia was the source of all the feed wheat that arrived in the Philippines in 2011.

As per the Australia-New Zealand-Asean Free Trade Agreement, feed wheat imports do not come under tariff.

In 2010 feed wheat imported from India, Brazil, Ukraine, Russia and the European Union, feed for which feed millers paid a duty of 7%.

The industry usually imports feed wheat whenever there is a shortage of corn in the local market and prices are high.

Corn imports were down by 5.47% from 2010.

Thailand was the primary source of imported volume in 2011, accounting for 41% of the total, followed by Indonesia (36%).
