Australia's pork industry funding to increase on higher levy
For the first time in 18 years, Australia's pork industry funding will rise if a proposal to increase on producers levy is accepted by the federal government.
Industry group Australian Pork Limited (APL) on Tuesday (Jan 3) submitted the proposal to increase the pig slaughter levy by AUD0.90 (US$0.93), in three stages over four years.
APL spokeswoman Amy Braddon did not believe increases in the levy would be passed on to consumers. "Pork producers will absorb the increase into their production costs," she said on Tuesday (Jan 3).
