Beijing introduces real time monitoring system for meat imports

 

 

Beijing launched its animal and animal product imports safety supervision and control system on December 31, 2007, according Beijing Animal Health Supervision Institute.

 

A total of 32 monitoring stations will be installed for real time monitoring on meat products imported from other provinces into Beijing municipality.

 

The system is said to retain meat and poultry product information including production place, volume, destination and means of transportation.

 

Officers at the stations will follow an investigation process such as license check, quality inspection, disinfection and signing off. The process itself will  be supervised.

 

Beijing officials implemented the system to gather data on the animal and meat products volume in different periods of the year in order to effectively prevent epidemic diseases.
