China's Meng Yisa opens cattle slaughter facility in Inner Mongolia
The largest cattle slaughter operation in the western part of China's Inner Mongolia came online Dec 28.
The facility, operated by Inner Mongolia's Meng Yisa Foods Co. Ltd, has an annual slaughter capacity of 100,000, and frozen production of 20,000 tonnes. The facility would also be producing 1,000 tonnes of cooked beef products a year.
Meng Yisa is located in Jinshan Economic Development District of Huhehaote city.
To ensure high standards of food hygiene and safety, the company imported advanced slaughtering, processing and packaging lines from Spain, thus filling the void for such advanced facilities in the region, the company said.
According to the company, giant milk companies such as Yili and Mengniu, which operates in the province, retire 10 to 20 percent of their herd each year, thus providing enough cattle for the operation of the facility.
The opening of the facility, besides being a boost to China's meat supply also meant a reliable source of income for dairy cattle farmers who now have a place to sell their retired cows, the company said.
