France concerned on high cattle slaughter
France's Ministry of Agriculture is worried that excessive cow slaughtering would lead to higher beef imports.
In the first three quarters of 2008, France slaughtered 1.1 million cows and 281,088 heifers. The ministry is concerned that would lead to less breeding in the domestic cattle sector.
France also slaughtered 898,153 steers and young bulls.
