China bans Indonesia swine imports

A ban has been imposed on Indonesia swine exports to China due to the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak, which was recently discovered in the Indonesian state of north Sumatra, reported Reuters.

China's customs have banned all imports of Indonesian swine, wild boars, and swine-related products because of the ASF outbreak in Indonesia.

As of December 17, 2019, Indonesia has reported 392 positive ASF cases in the country, according to a statement by China's General Administration of Customs.

China is managing its own ASF crisis. Since the disease was first discovered on August 2018, more than 40% of China's swine herds have been decimated.

China's government had recently implemented several measures to boost swine production in 2020, while also conducting prevention and control measures to stop new ASF outbreaks from occurring in the country.
