Status of China provinces hit by drought (updated Feb 11)

Gansu: one-third agriculture land affected
The warm winter phenomenon in China has affected 15 million mu or a third of Gansu's 32 million mu of agriculture land, with 6 million mu in dire conditions. 200,000 of the province's population and 180,000 livestock are facing water shortages.
Local government of the province has raised RMB150 million to combat the serious drought situation. (As of Feb 4)

Shanxi: 2.07 million hectares farmland face water shortages
2.07 million hectares of farmland across Shanxi have been affected by the drought, including 544,000 hectares of crops, reported the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.
Since October last year, Shanxi had received only 20.4 mm of rain, less than half the amount of 49.7 mm recorded in the same period between 2007 and 2008. (As of Jan 19)

Shandong: 10 million mu of wheat under threat
In Shandong, 20 million mu of wheat have been affected by the drought, with 10 million mu in dire conditions. 100,000 of the province's population and 70,000 livestock are also facing water shortages.
Last year, Shandong had planted 53 million mu of wheat seedlings. The local government has invested close to RMB400 million to salvage the situation. (As of Jan 22)

Henan: 63 percent wheat in danger
Henan, one of China's key grain producers, reported that 63 percent, or 3.3 million hectares, of its wheat fields was affected by the devastating drought.
Meteorological authorities of Henan reported that the drought was the worst the province experienced since 1951 with 105 days without any rain. (As of Feb 5)

Anhui: 24 million mu of land sounds red alert
The drought has affected 24.17 million mu of land in Anhui, with 12 million mu in dire conditions. Anhui province faces severe drought conditions as rainfall level continues to decrease since last October. (As of Feb 2)

Shaanxi: Drought impacts 60 percent of crops
Shaanxi provincial authorities forecast that the drought in would affect more than 60 percent of crops north of Huaihe River. In addition, 160,000 heads of livestock face water shortages in the province. (As of Feb 4)
