Igusol-Produmix: The liver as a metabolic axis in poultry production: the importance of standardized phytogenics

Abstract

The liver is a key metabolic axis in poultry production, and its function is challenged by fatty liver syndrome in layers and breeders, rapid growth in broilers, and heat-induced oxidative stress. Phytogenics can support liver function, but their efficacy depends on standardized, measurable active compounds rather than generic plant extracts. In broilers fed a standardized artichoke extract (chlorogenic acid and cynarin) from 0 to 42 days, serum AST and ALP were significantly reduced and total protein increased at the higher dose, alongside improved body weight and feed conversion, supporting standardization as a route to more consistent phytogenic nutrition.
