Vietnam's Five Star inaugurates Cambodia's largest fertiliser plant

The Cambodian Five Star International Fertiliser Co., Ltd, the largest fertiliser plant in Cambodia, was inaugurated on December 25 by Ho Chi Minh City-based Five Star Group.

The plant, work on which began in December 2009, is located in Keansvay District, Kandal Province. The US$65 million plant has a capacity of around 300,000 tonnes of NPK per year, or 50% of the country's needs, Tran Van Muoi, general director of Five Star, said.

The factory, thought to be the most modern in Southeast Asia, employs around 400 workers.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen hailed the project, saying Vietnam's investors had built the largest and most modern fertiliser factory in Cambodia in just three years. He conferred on the Five Star Group the Order of National Merit of Cambodia, type 1.

The group has gone from being a small fertiliser distributor 20 years ago to a large company with interests in property, hotel services, financial investment, and trading.
