China meat products and egg output show increase
China produced 78.5 million tonnes of meat and 27.6 million tonnes of eggs in 2010, both rising moderately over the previous year, according to the China National Grain and Oil Information Centre.
As Chinese people are consuming more high protein food, domestic meat and eggs imports are expected to rise. The meat and eggs output this year respectively edged up 2.6% and 1.5% over 2009.
According to the think-tank, the country's dairy products output reached 37.4 million tonnes in 2010, up 0.2% on-year. The Chinese government targets meat output by 2015 at 86 million tonnes, with per capita meat consumption of about 61 kg.
