US poultry expo to cover salmonella control from hatchery to chiller

US International Poultry Expo this year, through Poultry magazine, will discuss salmonella control and interventions from the hatchery to the chiller.

J. Stan Bailey, research microbiologist at the Russell Research Center, will present ways on reducing salmonella through live-bird handling. Bailey will discuss results of epidemiological studies in the US indicating where to focus in live-bird handling from the hatchery to the processing plant to control salmonella contamination.

Scott M. Russell, associate professor of poultry processing and products microbiology at the University of Georgia, will also present practical measures to minimize salmonella contamination in the processing plant, from re-hang to the chiller.
