Ukraine to start grain exports by January 2008

Ukraine is set to begin its exports of grain by January 1, 2008, according to the Minister of Agrarian Policy, Yuriy Melnik.

Ukraine's government has introduced the quotas for grain export on July 01, 2007, with maximum volume of 12,000 tonnes, considered prohibitive by market participants.

In November 2007, the cabinet of ministers decided to prolong the effect of the quotas until the end of 2007, and to permit the export of 1.2 million tonnes of grain on January 1 to March 31, 2008.
