Tajikistan's family farming project to receive support from US agency

A new investment project to support family farming in Tajikistan by the US Agency for International Support (USAID) was launched on December 28.

The project-presentation ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Qosim Qosimov, and USAID, Tajikistan Country Director, Jeffrey Lehrer. The total cost of the project that is designed for four years is US$28.99 million.

The project will be implemented under the support of the USAID. The objective of the project promotes more profitability for dehqon (peasant) farms and agribusiness by offering assistance to farmers and allowing them to have access to high-quality resources such as fertilisers, seeds, equipment, better cattle breeds and technologies.

The project will be implemented in Khatlon and Sughd provinces, Gorno Badakhshan and districts subordinate to the centre in cooperation with local authorities. The project includes establishment of information centres to support farming units.
