Cheap imports hurting Ukraine's meat producers

Some investment projects in Ukraine's breeding sector have come to a stop due to active imports of meat at dumping prices.

Some poultry and pork farms have also stopped production.

Over the first 11 months of 2009, Ukraine imported 375,400 tonnes of meat, including 198,000 tonnes of pork, 161,100 tonnes of poultry and 15,800 tonnes of beef, according to a statement of the All-Ukrainian Union of Agricultural Companies, Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, Tvaryprom Corporation and Union of Poultry Producers of Ukraine sent to First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov.
