Market analysis

Prices in the northern and eastern regions rose as supplies of hogs at standard release weight were limited, especially in areas where disease situations were more serious.

In the southern parts of China, procurement of meat for preparation of processed pork products for the approaching Spring festival have mostly been done, causing hog prices to soften as a result.

Market forecast

With New Year holidays and the Spring Festival around the corner, hog prices are seen to remain near current levels.

RMB1= US$0.1461 (Dec 30)
