Norwegian salmon accepted in Singapore
Singaporean health authorities have accepted Norwegian salmon as free of heavy metals and safe for consumption.
Russia had recently banned Norwegian salmon imports, after Russian vets claimed they contained unsafe levels of lead and cadmium. But the EU has differed from the Russian opinion and continued the imports.
Ashild Nakken of the Norwegian Seafood Export Council said many Russian importers were baffled by the ban as well.
Meanwhile, Norway's Fisheries Minister Helga Pedersen said the Food Safety Authority had submitted extensive documentation on the quality of Norwegian salmon to the Russians, in a bid to allay their concerns. She would also try resolving the issue directly with her Russian counterpart.
