Russia reports new FMD case

Russia has announced a new case of foot-and-mouth disease in the Amur region of Khabarovsk Territory, close to the Chinese border.

The source of the disease is currently under investigation, with the agriculture ministry reporting that four animals were found FMD positive. These animals have since been slaughtered.

Russia has put in place control measures to stamp out the cattle disease. These include the quarantine, screening, zoning and vaccination of animals. In addition, cattle movements within the country will be monitored and infected premises disinfected.
