Turkish companies have made applications to Saudi Arabia for the exportation of poultry into the Middle Eastern kingdom, according to Turkish Poultry Meat Producers and Breeders Association (BESD-BÄ°R), President Sait Koca.

Koca said he had received news from 13 more Turkish companies, including Er Piliç, Bolca Hindi, As Tavuk, Bu Piliç, Pınar Et and Lades, who have applied to become suppliers to Saudi Arabia. Koca also explained that problems arising from health concerns were resolved and that Saudi sector representatives had approved the products while expressing their desire to purchase more.

Turkey used to export 800 tonnes of poultry to Saudi Arabia annually but due to bird flu, the country had halted poultry exports in 2005. However, exports resumed in November after eight Turkish firms received approval for exportation at the beginning of the year. So far, they have sent 200 tonnes of exports to Saudi Arabia.

In 2011, a Saudi delegation had come to Turkey and visited the production facilities of eight exporters including Banvit, Keskinoğlu, Beypiliç, Şeker Piliç, Lezita and Mudurnu.

In January 2012, eight companies were granted the right to export due to the positive reports written as a result of the delegation's inspections.
