Bulgarian grain sector thrives in 2010

This year has been very good to the grain growers in Bulgaria having an abundant yield, said the National Association of Grain Growers Chairman Radoslav Hristov, rounding up the year for the sector.

After Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said the wheat export should be banned, the wheat price soared not only in Europe, but also globally, adding that for the first time Bulgaria saw European prices of all grain crops.

Hristov noted that for the first time the Bulgarian sector of grain growing had been granted so much money – BGN293 million (US$).

The National Association of Grain Growers Chairman mentioned two more important events for the sector in 2010 – the refusal to amend the Property and Agricultural Land Use Act and the introduction of a profit tax.
