Thailand develops highly productive layer-chicken breed

The Department of Livestock Department of Thailand has developed a chicken breed that could deliver 40% more eggs.

Preecha Somboonprasert, the Director-General of Livestock Development Department, said the developed chicken had better attributes than the local breed.

These attributes include a higher egg production, rapid growth, edible at 12-16 weeks, faster weight gain and pure breed generation at 800,000 chicks a year.

Preecha said the Department was prepared to expand the farm network across the country. The standardised farms could lead to industrial production and could serve both domestic and international markets, especially in Cambodia and Vietnam.
