Victoria's grain farmers holding back crops
Grain harvest in Australian state of Victoria is about halfway through, but many growers are not selling this year's crop.
Western Victorian grain broker Sam Heagney said growers are holding grain on farm in protest against low grain prices, and receivals sites are not as busy as one might expect from a huge harvest.
Not much grain was delivered despite the crop size, and much grain had been held back from the market too, he said.
Meanwhile grain growers in Tasmania are worried they will get less for their crop this harvest if they are forced to sell grain straight off the header.
They said the closure of silos at Launceston in the state's north has left growers with only one major place to deliver their grain.
