No ISA outbreaks in Chile for the first time

Chile's National Fisheries Service's (Sernapesca) latest update on the ISA virus situation shows no outbreaks in the country for the first time since the disease was isolated back in 2007.

Sernapesca's report also describes 10 suspect sites, 32 under sanitary fallow and 17 in category of risk.

General manager of the Chilean Salmon Industry Association (SalmonChile) Carlos Odebret said that this is good news, which represents the result of a series of measures, regulatory and practical modifications that have been changed over the period.

Still, Odebret warned against complacency. The productive cycle lasts 18 months and this cycle needs to close before a new one is opened. He said they need to have constant production levels with the current sanitary situation, and that they have to keep working on it now that they are toward the right direction.
