Indonesia's Charoen Pokphand sees profits returning in 2005
PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia expects to post net profits of Rp 50 billion in 2005 after last year's Rp 196.65 billion loss. The company had attributed this to a turnaround in sales, which had dipped sharply in 2004 owing to bird flu.
A CP company director was quoted as saying that sales might rise by 16 percent to reach Rp 5.6 trillion (about US$572 million) from Rp 4.81 trillion in 2004. Sales volume would likewise also increase, by 9 percent to 1,665 tonnes.
This year's bird flu outbreak has had comparatively little impact on sales. Prices of day-old chicks at Charoen Pokphand also improved.
