*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Although prices of broiler recovered of late, the rebound was a weak one, failing to boost the confidence of feed millers. Poultry feed demand continued to remain limited as a result, hampering the sales of methionine together with low piglet feed production.

During November, China imported 5,707 tonnes of methionine, surging 102% compared with October.

In Europe, prices of methionine for 2017 Q1 deliveries remained soft in the range of EUR2.40-2.50/kg amid flat demand.

Market forecast

Poultry feed production is poised to be limited while the broiler and egg markets underperform. Additionally, feed millers will stay cautious as there were two cases of avian flu infection reported of late, one in Shanghai and another in Fujian. Prices of methionine will likely consolidate around current levels with sales slow.
