Tasmania experiences egg shortage after bird flu outbreak

Buoyed by an outbreak of bird flu, more than 450,000 chickens were destroyed on the mainland earlier this month which has caused a national egg shortage in Tasmania, according to ABC News.

Some Hobart supermarkets ran out of eggs Monday (Dec 23), but stocks have been replenished Tuesday (Dec 24).

The president of the Tasmanian Commercial Egg Producers Association, John Groenewold, says the shortage has placed a lot of pressure on local egg producers.
