H.J. Heinz Co's Iowa facility fails to meet USDA export requirement

H.J. Heinz Co's processing facility in Muscatine, Iowa has failed to meet USDA's requirements for poultry exports to Canada.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service has added the facility to its list of plants not eligible to export to Canada.

According to FSIS, effective December 24, 2012, the export certification is not issued for any products produced at this establishment.

The 1893-built facility is the company's oldest plant which underwent a major upgrade in 2010. Besides its main gravy line, tomato sauce, the company also manufactures poultry products, among other products.
