Hubei still leads China's freshwater exports after 13 years
 

 

China's Hubei province exported 300,000 tonnes of processed freshwater products in 2007, still ranking first place in China, according to information released by the province.

 

Lobsters and fish reaped the most sales, accounting for 70 percent of the total, with estimated earnings at US$250 million.

 

Small lobster in particular sold 32,300 tonnes in 2007, hitting RMB159 million (US$21 million) in foreign exchange earnings.

 

Hubei's aquatic product breeding area covers 0.69 million hectates this year, with total aquatic product output of 3.5 million tonnes, ranking first in China for the thirteenth year in a row.

 

It is expected that the province's seafood breeding area will reach 0.7 million ha in 2008, with total output of 3.65mt and export value of more than RMB350 million (US$47 million).
