US cattle-on-feed the highest in 11 years for December

Cattle and calves in US feedlots in December 1, 2007 totaled 12.1 million head, the highest December 1 inventory since the series began in 1996. 

The numbers were 1 percent higher than that of previous year.

Placements in feedlots during November totaled 2.12 million, 12 percent above 2006

Net placements were 2.06 million head.

Marketings of fed cattle during November totaled 1.74 million, 3 percent below 2006.

Colorado reported cattle-on-feed up 4 percent to 1.07 million heads but Idaho reported numbers down by 11 percent to 240,000 according to to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
