Survey shows Vietnam prefers fresh milk products

Top survey group AC Nielsen showed that fresh milk consumption grew 22% this year, indicating the Vietnamese preference of water-based dairy products over condensed milk.

The survey also showed that milk consumption level is at 200 million litres a year, which represents the average growth rate of 20% per annum. In 2005, the total fresh milk market earned VND 13 trillion or more than US$ 800 million.

Analysts said that the growth rate this year would be 5 to 10 percent higher than last year, with the presence of 50 different brands on the market.

This also indicates that the milk market in general and the water-based dairy product market in particular will be attractive to investors.

On December 21, CasMilk, a dairy company from the Czech Republic has joined the expanding Vietnam milk market. CasMilk, a 100 percent-pasteurised fresh milk, invested US$ 250 million to produce pure fresh milk using Czech technology.

The company boasts of delivering authentic fresh milk product in the market ten hours after it has been freshly extracted from the cows using its advanced processing system.

In December, Vinamilk launched the V-mart chain in Ho Chi Minh City, which will provide dairy products and other health food products. Vinamilk is set to put up 200 V-marts nationwide in 2007.

Dutch Lady Vietnam also started the construction of its second milk factory this month in Ha Nam Province in the north, which has the initial capital of US$20million and is expected to produce 45 million litres of milk every year.
