UK sees decline in milk output
Low silage stocks and weaker quality are taking their toll, with declining milk yields and increased feed costs, according to independent dairy specialists, Kingshay.
The firm's October dairy manager results show a 1.7 litre per cow drop in daily milk yields.
A subsample of 900 of its cost herds with more than two years of complete information, showed average daily yield dropped from 25.2 to 23.5 litres per cow, with yield from forage down two litres to just 4.4 litres.
