Russia to restrict meat supplies from 12 enterprises
Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor, will impose restrictions on meat and poultry supplies from 12 Belgian, Brazilian, and US enterprises from January 5, 2011, over banned and harmful substances found in their products, the service said on Thursday (Dec 23).
The restrictions were imposed against four American, two Belgian, and six Brazilian enterprises. The watchdog has detected salmonella in chicken quarters and pork cheeks supplied from the US. The same bacteria was detected in the Belgian pork. The pork liver supplied by the Brazilian companies contained antibiotic doxycycline, the watchdog said.
"In case these enterprises supply their production shipped before January 5 to the Russian Federation, permission will be granted in the ordinary course with further obligatory laboratory control," the watchdog said.
Ship batches of production loaded before January 5 will be allowed into Russia with further obligatory laboratory control.
Meanwhile, coliform bacteria were detected in the batches of pork in brine supplied from six Spanish companies and batches of beef and yogurt-like dairy beverage kefir supplied from two different Polish enterprises, and the watchdog decided to impose the regime of intense laboratory control.
