Argentina leaves 07-08 soy output forecast at 16.6 million hectres
Argentina's 2007-08 wheat production will total 15.4 million tonnes, unchanged from last month's estimate, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its monthly crop report on Friday (December 21, 2007).
Favorable moisture conditions boosted yields and allowed the crop to recover from late frosts in November, the Secretariat said. The production estimate is "almost certain," it said, indicating that with 40 percent of the crop harvested and the balance reaching maturity, weather conditions would cease to affect production potential.
The Secretariat also left unchanged its forecasts for 2007-08 soy, corn and sunseed areas. Dry weather has slowed soy planting, but a record area is seen going to the beans this year.
Estimates for Argentina's 2007-08 crop production in millions of hectares (HA) or millions of tones (MT).
