Updated guide to use of antibiotics in food animals now out
An updated guide to the use of antibiotics in food-producing animals has been released by the European Platform for the Responsible Use of Medicines in Animals (Epruma) on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.
The guide, titled "EPRUMA best-practice framework for the use of antibiotics in food-producing animals –Reaching for the next level", explains the role and benefits of antibiotics in animal health and describes best-practice use in food-producing animals.
It also combines both a holistic and a specific approach to facilitate optimisation of animal health at farm level, including good animal feeding practices and the role of certain feed ingredients in maintaining the animal health status.
The guide updates the 2008 edition, which had become a much-reference document in the responsible use of medicines in animals.
