China's 2005 feed output to exceed 100 million tonnes

China's feed output is expected to exceed 100 million tonnes for the first time this year, chairman of the China Feed Industry Association Bai Meiqing said.

Bai added that China's feed industry has achieved steady growth despite the negative impact of recent bird flu outbreaks in the country.

China's total feed output for 2005 is estimated at 103 million tonnes, up 6.6 percent from 2004, Bai said. Gross output value is estimated at RMB263.9 billion (about US$32.7 billion), up 8 percent year-on-year.

From Q1 to Q3 2005, domestic feed production grew rapidly but slowed in Q4 due to bird flu outbreaks.

However, Bai expressed optimism for the domestic feed industry in 2006, as the government planned to provide more support to the agriculture sector.
