Climate change a threat to China's grain output
Climate change will aggravate the risk of reduced grain output in China, according to a group of Chinese agricultural scientists.
More than 20 scientists from 13 agricultural science academies said in a research report that climate change will likely reduce China's grain output by more than 10% unless solutions are found.
Climate change will exacerbate drought in northern China and worsen floods in southern areas, researchers said.
Agricultural area will fall due to desertification and salinisation, limiting expansion possibilities for grain crops, the report added.
