Brazil doubles corn exports to Arab nations

 

 

Brazilian corn exports to Arab nations have more than doubled in terms of revenues for the first 11 months of 2009.

 

According to figures disclosed by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Brazil generated US$236.2 million worth of corn sales to the Arab world from January to November this year, up from US$119.5 million in the same period last year.

 

Saudi Arabia was the largest buyer of Brazilian corn, accounting for US$84.8 million, but it was lower than the US$101.5 million during January-November 2008.

 

Morocco was the second largest buyer, with purchases increasing US$24.9 million from a year ago to US$58.4 million in January-November 2009.

 

The third largest buyer was Algeria, with Brazilian corn purchases rising sharply from US$8.8 million in the first 11 months of 2008 to US$43.5 million in the same period this year.

 

Yemen bought US$17 million worth of Brazilian corn, up from US$6.3 million last year, while the UAE was the fifth largest market with US$15.3 million worth of Brazilian corn imports.
