Argentina's wheat exports rise in September; corn and soy down

 

 

Argentina's year-on-year wheat exports rose 28 percent in September, the latest Agriculture Secretariat data show.

 

Argentina exported 497,121 tonnes of wheat in September, compared with 388,285 tonnes shipped during the same month a year ago, according to the Secretariat.

 

Brazil was the leading importer of Argentine wheat.

 

Brazil imported 382,852 tonnes in September compared with 266,837 tonnes a year ago.

 

Argentina produced 12.5 million tonnes of wheat in 2005/06, compared with 16 million tonnes a year earlier, according to the Agriculture Secretariat.

 

 

Corn

 

Argentina exported 731,969 tonnes of corn in September, down 29 percent from 1,029,143 tonnes during the same period a year earlier.

 

Malaysia was the leading importer, buying 164,764 tonnes, while Peru bought 122,029 tonnes and Saudi Arabia bought 116,870 tonnes.

 

Corn production in 2005/06 totalled 14.5 million tonnes compared with 20.5 million tonnes the previous season, according to the Agriculture Secretariat.

 

 

Soy

 

Argentina exported 479,832 tonnes of soybeans in September, down from 766,437 tonnes a year before.

 

China imported 426,869 tonnes in September, 32.7 percent less than the 634,392 tonnes it bought a year ago.

 

Argentina is the world's no. 3 soybean producer and exporter behind the US and Brazil.

 

Argentina produced 40.5 million tonnes of soybeans from the 2006/07 crop, up from 39 million tonnes a year earlier, according to the Secretariat.
